Tom Liguori
Tom Liguori graduated from Manhattan College with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and then went on to receive his MBA from San Diego State University. Upon graduation, he worked for the San Francisco Naval Shipyard as a Quality Control Engineer. In 1970 he began a 35 year career in the mail order industry by starting the National Pen Corporation.
Under Tom’s entrepreneurial leadership, National Pen grew from a start-up business into a company doing $180,000,000 in revenue in 2004. During his tenure as CEO, Tom gained experience in virtually all positions throughout the company, from Marketing to Production to Order Administration. Although he spent a significant amount of time on machine design and production, Tom’s specialty is as a premier marketer. His expertise spans skills such as product development, concept development, copywriting, test structuring, and sales analysis. He is known in the industry as one of the most creative entrepreneurs in the B to B sector, and led one of the only companies to use solo mailing pieces to prospect at a profit.
In 1990, Tom developed a Sweepstakes concept that involved the purchase of 300 square miles of land in Mexico which was then subdivided into 5000 square-foot lots and given away as prizes. This was the most successful mailing in the company’s history and today, as a result of the Sweepstake promotion, the El Dorado Ranch in San Felipe, Mexico is the largest and most profitable American Community on the Baja Peninsula. This kind of conceptual thinking and execution was the driving force behind the growth of National Pen Corporation.
After the sale of National Pen Corporation in 2004, Tom continued to work for the company for two years in an advisory role. Subsequently, he co-founded Liguori Management, where he is the driving force for the exploration of creative and diverse business solutions, careful investments, and visionary ideas.
Tom is an inventor and designer, holding several patents in the fields of business methods, design and manufacturing processes. He has been a member of both YPO and WPO and over the years has held various officer positions in both organizations.
Tom’s highest priority has always been his family. He is a dedicated son, husband, and father, and a loyal and generous friend.
In his spare time, Tom plays golf and tennis. He can frequently be found in his machine shop doing experiments or building kinetic wind sculptures.
